Whether you’re launching a brand-new website or refreshing your existing one with an overhauled design, you’ll want to make sure you get the most out of your website, and the designer you’re working with. If you’re unsure as to where you want to start with your website, and how the design is pulled together – that’s fine! It isn’t your job to know this, hence why you’re working with an expert designer. There are, however, some top tips you can use to ensure you get the most out of working with your web designer, which we’ve listed out below. 

Focus on your business objectives

You designer’s job is to create a solution for a business objective you have, in the form of a website. Firstly, whilst the designer is the expert in terms of web-build, you are very much the expert on your business, its requirements and objectives. So be as clear and detailed as possible when explaining what these objectives are to your designer. Secondly, once you have a working draft of your website designed, try to analyse it based on your business objectives and whether it performs to bring solutions to the goals you’ve set. Whilst it’s difficult not to bring personal preferences, such as colour, font and copy into your thoughts, try to put these to one side initially, and decide whether the site actually performs to solve your business needs.

Find the problem

This probably goes against everything you’ve learnt from working in business, but in the process of designing a website, try to act as the site visitor and user, rather than the designer you’ve hired. If you can find potential issues with the site, from usability to navigation, the chances are your visitors will too. It’s your job, as the client, to find every possible way the website might not work, so that your designer can offer you the expert solutions they have been trained to do. Only once you can find no further problems should you be looking at a launch stage for your site.
